Philadelphia based artist, Melissa Castillo's work is inspired by cats and her Peruvian culture. She graduated with her Bachelors in Fine Arts at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and majored in Illustration. Her work has been seen in multiple galleries including Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and California, Pennsylvania. Through her university, Melissa's illustrations have been published in the Underground Pool and for the Visiting Writers Series. She also has interned as a graphic designer at the Broadway of Arts Education in New York City, where she worked on their advertisements and promotions and closely with their lead art director. Melissa’s hope as an Hispanic illustrator is to create more artwork surrounding her culture and Latin culture in general. With the lack of representation of Hispanic characters in illustration, she hopes to make an impact on viewers with her diverse characters and stories.
